Field-induced magnetic ordering in an S = 1/2 quasi-one-dimensional quantum spin system: (CH3)2NH2Cucl3

Abstract

Specific heat measurements of the quasi-one-dimensional S = 1/2 quantum spin system (CH3)2NH2CuCl3 have been carried out in a magnetic field up to H=8 T. This compound shows a 1/2 magnetization plateau between 2 T and 3.5 T and the magnetization saturates at H=14 T. We observed field-induced magnetic ordering (FIMO) in the field range above the upper edge of the magnetization plateau (H ≥ 4 T). The field dependence of the FIMO temperature is quite unlike those of the other quantum spin systems investigated so far.
