Field observations and numerical simulations of harbor oscilations due to long period waves

    Abstract

    Long period oscillations of moored ships cause many troubles in loading and unloading of cargoes. In this study, such oscillations in the Port of Shibushi are investigated by means of image processing, wave observations and numerical simulations based on the Boussinesq model. In conclusion, long period oscillations of moored ships are found to occur with the period of a few minutes and the oscillations are caused by harbor oscillations due to incident long period waves when a typhoon is located on the East China Sea to the south of the port.
