N2 - Field studies were conducted in southern to eastern India and Sri Lanka during August 1997-January 1998 by several geologists from Japan, India, Sri Lanka, and Canada. They included structural and petrological studies in the central region of the Eastern Ghats Granulite Belt, structural studies in the eastern marginal regions of the Dharwar Craton, alkaline rocks in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, mafic granulites in the Palghat-Cauvery Shear Zone area, structural study in a central part of the Achankovil Shear Zone, preliminary observations in the Chotanagpur Gneiss Complex, and petrological studies in the Highland Complex of Sri Lanka. The surveys were successful, with about 385 man-days of field work and collection of about three tons of rock samples being made. In this paper, some important field operations and observations are given. Detailed laboratory works are going on and the results will appear elsewhere in future.
