Fine metal complexation of Phenylazomethine Macrocycles

Abstract

Polyphenylazomethines have many imine sites, which easily coordinate to metals. We synthesized cyclic phenylazomethines(CPA-M),which have a cyclic compound containing four imine sites with EZEZ conformation. Coordination of metal ions to imines of CPA-M was monitored by UV-Vis spectroscopy as the shift in isobestic points. The results show the coordination occurs in a stepwise fashion. In addition, we studied electrochemical properties of metal- coordinated CPA-M, and found metal ions are released by electrochemical reduction.
