Flow injection analysis by using acid-base or metal-ligand buffers and color-indicators

Abstract

Flow injection analysis is proposed using the reaction of the sample with a buffer solution containing an indicator. Acetic acid-acetate pH-buffer containing methyl red and nitrilotriacetic acid-magnesium buffer containing calmagite were employed as carrier solutions for the analysis of acids and bases or for chelatometric analysis, respectively. Successful determinations of hydrochloric acid, ammonia, magnesium and calcium and their mixtures are presented, as examples of the proposed method.
