Flow visualization of flow pattern within aneurysm induced in anterior communicating artery

Abstract

In the present paper, the flow structure within the anterior communicating artery (ACoA) with the initial, the progressive, and the developed aneurysm has been visualized by PIV in laminar steady flow. Since the vascular disease such as an aneurysm is apt to occur at the site where the artery bifurcates and joins, the flow pattern is closely related to the initiation and the development of the aneurysm. The ACoA composing the circle of Willis is one of the predilection sites of the cerebral aneurysm. The relation between the flow pattern and the aspect ratio AR (=depth/ neck diameter of aneurysm) is studied by the flow visualization from the viewpoint of hemodynamics. Copyright
