Forced volume magnetostriction of itinerant electron metamagnet Y(Co1-xAlx)2

Abstract

The forced magnetostriction and the magnetization have been measured for the itinerant electron metamagnetic system Y(Co1-xAlx)2 with 0.095≦×≦0.12. A large volume change associated with the metamagnetic transition has been observed. The volume change has been found to be proportional to the square of magnetization in both paramagnetic and ferromagnetic regions.
