N2 - There are a lot of utilities, such as waste water, water, gas, electricity, under the ground of urban area in Japan. Demand for installation of various pipes/cables in deeper underground area is growing due to urbanization. Therefore the pipe jacking technology at deeper underground area is expected to be used. This paper describes the standard guidelines of pipe jacking technologies and some field data. It also explains the characteristic of thrust and the friction resistance pipe jacking in the ground of clayey and sandy soil. Then the prediction equation of thrust for pipe jacking in the soil and sedimentary rock in the deeper area will be discussed.
