Abstract

We investigated a chip mount structure with a gap between the chip and the metal mount to enhance the power of a radiated THz wave from a planar antenna on an InP substrate. At an optimal structure, the upward and downward waves were constructively interfered. Simulated results showed the required refractive index and gap thickness for maximum intensities and wider beam steering to be achieved for a targeted frequency of 300 GHz. The required 10% down fabrication tolerance of the gap was also calculated.
