Generating ripple-pattern-like images with edge preservation

Abstract

A non-photorealistic rendering method for generating ripple-pattern-like images from photographic images has been proposed. However, the conventional method can generate only the ripple patterns of the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions. In this paper, we propose a method for generating a ripple patterns along the edges. The proposed method can enhance the edge preservation stability, and generate ripple-pattern-like images as the edges are emphasized. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we conduct experiments on the image of Lena and evaluate the outputs of the proposed method visually. Experimental results are also shown for other images.
