Genetic Analysis Of Psoriasis (II): Major Histocompatibility Antigens in Psoriatic Arthritis

Abstract

In order to elucidate genetic involvement for the development of psoriatic arthritis (PA), we performed a population study. Major histocompatibility antigens were analyzed in 15 patients with PA (9 males and 6 females) and compared with those of forty patients with psoriasis vulgaris (PV) and 108 healthy adults which served as a control group. PA showed associations with HLA-A2, B27, Bw46, Cw6 and DRw8 (the strongest association was with HLA-A2). On the other hand, PV showed moderate associations with only HLA-Cw6 and Cw7. In addition, PA did not show any association with HLA-DR4, which is known to be strongly associated with rheumatoid arthritis. These findings suggest that genetic factors involved in the pathogenesis of PA are different from those involved in PV and rheumatoid arthritis.
