Abstract
The authors have investigated a single carrier phase modulation (constant envelope modulation) system employing 1-bit quantization A/D conversion which simplifys the receiver analog circuits. In this paper, hardware configuration and implemented results of a 1 bit A/D converter for constant envelope modulation (CEM) systems were discussed, where 1 bit A/D converter is implemented on a 0.18μm CMOS process. Since circuit area for the 1 bit A/D converter are small, it can be expected that the CEM receiver is realized with small analog circuit area and low power consumption. The 1 bit A/D converter is utilized in order to digitize the received signal. We measured the A/D converter output experimentally by using the differential encoded Gaussian MSK (GMSK) signal as the input signal of the A/D converter. In addition, we evaluated bit error rate (BER) performance of the system by computer simulations using the measured A/D converter output data.
