Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the process which the aged people who collect a healthinformation by health literacy and make health behavioral change to exam the construct of healthliteracy. The targets are women in their sixties in A city, who have an annual checkup and guidance.An exploratory qualitative study was conducted based on observation of checkup and guidance andthe semi-structured interview. The texts of health literacy and behavior extracted from the result ofobservation and interviews was analysed based on Murata's health literacy index. The construct ofhealth literacy were classified into 4 categories such as functional, interactive, critical and otherhealth literacy. As the fourth literacy is competency to reflect and think about one's life, we havenamed reflective health literacy. In conclusion, it is suggested that reflective health literacy shouldimpact on behavioral changes into healthy lifestyle.
