Abstract

1.45 μm active multi-mode-interferometer laser diode (MMI-LD) for fiber amplifier applications was discussed. MMI-LD were implemented together with regular LD's in InP/GaAsP 1.45 μm strained multiple-quantum well (MQW). Results showed a significant reduction of 40% in electric power consumption and increase of 70% in the power output.
