Abstract

Completely substituted cellulose ethers containing C equals C double bonds were prepared by allylation or methallylation of commercially available cellulose ethers in their dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solutions with powdered sodium hydroxide as a base. Thermal stabilities of these new cellulose derivatives were characterized by TG-DSC. Epoxy groups were introduced into these new cellulose ethers in their homogeneous organic solutions by oxidation with m-chloroperbenzoic acid.
