Abstract
Hydrodynamic forces acting on vertical cylinders forced to surge in very low frequencies in regular waves are investigated with the view of studying the viscous damping force acting on a moored floating structure undergoing the slow-drift oscillation in irregular waves. Experiments show that the drag coefficients of the cylinder oscillating with low frequencies in waves are quite different from those of the cylinder oscillating in a still water.
