Abstract

In order to investigate swells, which can have significant impacts on a wide range of engineering applications, we improved a method by which to obtain more stable and accurate estimates for the wave directional spectrum. We introduce the non-negative least squares method to a computing estimator used in a previous method to improve the stability and accuracy of wave directional spectrum estimation. We evaluated the estimation stability and accuracy of the proposed method using numerically simulated data. The validation results indicated that the proposed method provided the best estimation stability and accuracy.
