Abstract
SUBARU80/2.0, 2MW downwind turbine, was developed by Fuji Heavy Industries in 2006, aiming for profitability in complex terrains. Infrasound, inaudible low frequency pressure fluctuation between 1 and 20Hz, has been recognized to be one of the fatal risks of downwind turbines. Infrasound of the turbine was measured based on IEC61400-11, as well as broad band noise. Wind speed, measured at 60m above ground level, 170m upwind of the turbine, were between 6 and 1 lm/s in both power production and idling conditions. Noise power level of broad band noise was calculated as l06.9dBA through the measurement, at 10.3m/s of hub wind speed. It is competitive to other turbines with similar scale. Infrasound, measured at 102m downwind of the turbine, was about 82dBG, operating around rated wind speed. It is fairly lower than 92dBG, defined as the guidelines of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan. Through the present work, infrasound was not shown to be fatal as far as the present turbine concerned.
