Abstract
In this paper we discuss an integrated method of developing communications systems with the programming language Ada. We use Ada as a design tool and a specification language from the early stages of the system development. We run the Ada program of the communications system to test the program and/or to simulate the communications system under an Ada processor on our development machine. And then we successively enhance the Ada program to produce the final communications system. As a case study we report our experience with Ada in developing a communications system consisting of four computers connected with the Ethernet. Our experience demonstrates the effectiveness of using high-level concurrent programming language such as Ada when designing and implementing (particularly distributed) software systems.
