Interdiffusivities have been determined from compositional variations measured across the Ni/Ni3Ge diffusion-couple interface with an analytical electron microscope (AEM) and an electron probe microanalyser (EPMA). The AEM was further used for microstructural observations in the vicinity of the γ/γ′ interphase interface, where γ represents the Ni-rich solid solution phase and γ′ the Ni3Ge-based ordered phase. The Sauer-Freise technique as well as the Boltzmann-Matano technique has been applied to the determination of interdiffusivities in the γ and γ′ phases. The interdiffusivities obtained in this study are compared with the self-diffusivities of Ge and Ni reported in the literature. It is shown that the present results are consistent with the earlier ones obtained from the Ni/Ni3Al diffusion-couple experiments.
