Abstract

A report is presented on a WEather chart Recognition Program (WERP) which is working in our Information understanding System of BAsic weather Report (ISOBAR). WERP mainly aims to extract all information from a given chart by the aid of a priori knowledge. The extracted information is primarily used to construct the semantic table of ISOBAR in its accumulation mode. Here, we study what kind of knowledge is necessary, and how it is organized in the present system. Also, fundamental processing schemes are looked over, and demonstrated through experimental research. Finally, the problems left for the future work are pointed out.
