    Abstract

    Lipophilic phenylphosphonic acids with a Ar-P linkage form stable complexes with lanthanide ions such as Tb3+ and Eu3+ and the complexes show the very high luminescence quantum yields (Φ = 0.25 - 0.30 for Tb3+ and 0.09 - 0.13 for Eu3+) due to the efficent energy-transfer through the Ar-P linkage and the metal encapsulation effects.
