Abstract
Hyperthermia combined with irradiation and chemotherapy for patients with carcinoma of the esophagus was prescribed. The long term results were compared between two groups of patients treated with HCR and those treated with CR but not hyperthermia. The survival rates of patients with resectable or nonresectable carcinoma given HCR were better with statistical difference. As side effects of hyperthermia were nil, this treatment deserves serious consideration in patients with carcinoma of the esophagus.
