Abstract

We examined the magnetocaloric effect of Co(S1-xSe x)2, which shows typical itinerant electron metamagnetism, under high pressures up to 1.2 GPa. It was found that the magnetic entropy change, δSM, of x = 0 increases with increasing pressure, while that for x = 0:05 is not sensitive to pressure. For x = 0:08, δS M is decreased with pressure. The temperature dependence of δSM was calculated on the basis of the spin fluctuation theory of itinerant electron metamagnetism. The calculated results reproduce the experimental δSM-T curves well. The pressure dependence of TC of Co(S1-xSex)2 is also discussed.
