Abstract

The paper is concerned with a scheduling problem of a ship building line consisting of block assembly conveyers and block stock areas based on a mathematical model represented by max-plus algebra. In general, there are both time constraints on delivery dates and space constraints on work places in scheduling problems. In our previous paper, the conveyer and stock models correspond to the case that the number of blocks produced is more than or equal to the number of work places in conveyers and stockyards. The paper discusses the reverse case that the number of blocks is less than to the number of work places in conveyers and stockyards, where the space constraints must be taken account of. Based on this discussion, it is shown that our scheduling problem can be solved comprehensively.
