Micelle-formation of AB/AC block copolymer mixtures by intermolecular association with hydrogen bonding in solutions

Abstract

A pair of polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (SP) and polystyrene-block-poly(4-hydroxystyrene) (SH) were dissolved in THF or dioxane, and the intermolecular association behavior with hydrogen bonding was investigated by static light scattering. In dioxane, micellization was observed, and it was confirmed that the association number decreases with increasing temperature and with decreasing polymer concentration, while micelles were hardly formed in THF.
