Abstract

We investigate microscopic structures of octupole correlations at high spin in superdeformed open-shell nuclei in the Gd-Dy region, using the random-phase approximation (RPA) based on the cranked shell model. The result of our calculation indicates that constructive interplay between rotation-aligned particle-hole (or two-quasiparticle) excitations and octupole vibra-tions is very important in determining octupole softness of superdeformed bands.
