Abstract

The crack development in the blast furnace coke was studied at the carbonization and calcination stages by continuous microscopic observation of the polished coke surface. The extent and direction of the crack develpment were summarized in relation to the optical texture of the coke. The initiation and propagation of cracks were discussed on the basis of the local contractibility due to the orientation of microcristallines.
