Molecular recognition using surface template polymerization

Abstract

The application of surface template polymerization, a novel molecular-imprinting technique, to overcome the fundamental drawbacks of conventional polymer imprinting methods were investigated. A Zn(II)-imprinted polymer was prepared by surface template polymerization using dioleyl phosphoric acid (DOLPA) as a functional host molecule and divinylbenzene as a polymer matrix-forming monomer. Both the binding ability for Zn(II) and the interfacial activity of DOLPA were very high. The structure of the functional host molecule had a dominant effect on the rigidity of the polymer matrix.
