Morphology study of polyamic acid alkyl amine salts and polyimide Langmuir-Blodgett films by atomic force microscopy

Abstract

Polyimide Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were prepared by soluble polyamic acid alkyl amine salt precursor method. The precursors were transferred to a solid substrate in a layer-by-layer fashion. Subsequent removal of the hydrophobic component and concomitant imidization produced the polyimide. Such polyimide LB films possess a thickness of around five angstroms and exhibit thermal and chemical resistance. A micro-morphology of the precursor and polyimide LB films by atomic force microscopy is reported.
