MPL/GDL-supported Pt electrocatalysts for PEFCs

Abstract

The improvement of mass productivity and the durability are required for polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). In this study, non-carbon support and Pt arc directly deposited on the microporous layer (MPL) coated on the gas diffusion layer (GDL) by arc plasma deposition (APD) to prepare a "Pt/non-carbon support/MPL/GDL" integrated structure. We aim to develop PEFCs stable on the cathode side with high mass productivity. Microstructure of the electrocatalyst layers and electrochemical properties of such MEAs at different voltages of APD are analyzed and discussed.
