MRI of granular flows in a rotating cylinder

Abstract

Granular flow in a steadily rotating cylinder is measured by nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This truly noninvasive technique can statistically average three-dimensional concentrations and velocity fields of flows of suitable granular materials. Based on the MRI data, we present two-dimensional concentration and velocity profiles of a cross section for two sets of flow experiments with different ratio rates.
