Abstract
Mucoadhesive polymers have been extensively studied as pharmaceutical formulations for drug delivery systems because of their potential advantages, such as long residence time, improved drug bioavailability, and reduced dosing frequency. Therefore, many researchers have developed mucoadhesive polymers as drug delivery carriers via various administration routes, including ocular, nasal, gastrointestinal and vaginal routes. Here I revise the mechanism of mucoadhesion. Moreover, I discussed synthetic or natural polymer that has mucoadhesive properties and how this polymer can be used for oral drug delivery.
