Multi-sorting system based on distantly placed on-chip gel-actuators

Abstract

We present a multi-sorting system using on-chip gel-actuators which are distantly placed from the sorting point. The system utilizes the laminar flow condition which is dominant characteristic in micro/nano scale. We can separate cells by controlling of the streamline in a microchannel. In order to achieve the multiple-switching of streamline, the patternable thermo-responsible gel is used as on-chip actuators. The motion of gel-actuators are independently controlled by the local heating of microheaters which are fabricated under the actuators. We describe the basic mechanism with the numerical analysis, and also show the results of on-chip multi-sorting.
