New challenges in neuropsychopharmacology

Abstract

The regulatory role of cytokines in HPA axis and the genetic study of mood disorders were investigated. This article will summarise our experimental findings of cytokines in the animal model of major depression. TNF and IL-1β increased the AVP release within the PVN of rats. Next, we summarized the polymorphism of IL-1β and IL-IRA genes. There was a significant relationship between IL-1β gene and overall mood disorders. These findings will lead us to a better understanding of pathophysiology and the effective treatments of psychiatric disorders.
