    Abstract

We present a technique for suppressing noise in an image enhancing method using a bilateral filter with image decomposition into base and detail components. The detail component is smoothed with a cross-bilateral filter then magnified and added to the base component to get an enhanced image. Using this technique provides superior denoising and sharpening capability than a conventional method with preliminary smoothing of input images. We extend this technique to denoising images enhanced with general image sharpening methods.
