Abstract

A trial to quantify the deviation of turbulent plasma state from that in thermal equilibrium is made. Considering an example of drift wave-zonal flow fluctuations, some aspects, e.g., the fluctuation energy density, and the associated transport, etc., for the evaluation of the distance between them are shown. Apart from the geometrical factors as well as the instability sources, the ratio between ion gyroradius and density gradient scale length, ρi/Ln, is found to be a key parameter that denotes the distance between them. A way that characterizes and quantifies the distance of "far" from thermal equilibrium is searched for.
