Abstract

The optical manipulation of the line defects in a hyperswollen lyotropic lamellar phase of liquid crystals was discussed. The tension of a single isolated line defect and the adhesion energy between the two defects were also measured directly while the line defect was studied using laser trapping method. The analysis suggested that the flow in a lamellar phase was two-dimensional.
