Abstract

The blue phases (BP) occur t in narrow temperatures of highly chiral nematic liquid crystals. The structures of BPI and BP II are believed to be a body centered cubic and a simple cubic, respectively. In the past, we could not observe lattice structure of non-stabilized BP, because temperature control on confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) was difficult due to thermal conduction through the immersion lens. In this study, 3D structures of BP I lattice were directly observed by synchronizing the temperatures of the sample stage and the immersion objective lens of CLSM.
