Blue phases that appear in a very narrow temperature range between a chiral nematic and an isotropic liquid phase have three-dimensional periodic structures for visible light wavelengths. Therefore, blue phase liquid crystals have attracted much attention for their application to photonics devices. In this study, we prepared new photoresponsive binaphthyl derivatives having anthracene moieties which can photodimerize and dissociate and investigated how an induced chirality of a host liquid crystal changes by the change in configuration of chiral dopants before and after UV light irradiation.
