The photonic band structure and transmission properties of a cholesteric blue phase 2 liquid crystal, which is elongated in the  direction by electrostriction, are analyzed by finite-difference time-domain method. The simple cubic lattice deforms into a tetragonal lattice under the influence of an electric field, resulting in a change of the photonic band structure. Moreover, we show that the circular polarization dependence of the transmittance spectrum changes in an electric field, a behavior that has yet to be observed in experiment.
