N2 - Generation of picosecond vacuum ultraviolet pulses by anti-Stokes stimulated Raman Scattering (ASRS) in hydrogen gas is reported. A tunable picosecond KrF excimer laser (30 ps FWHM, 12 mJ) is used as a pump source, and a series of anti-Stokes lines up to the 9th order (128.8 nm) is efficiently generated. The transient effects due to the finite decay time of the Raman medium are discussed for the present picosecond ASRS experiment.
