Abstract

Some of the Japanese industrial PM (powder metallurgy) companies are discussed. Kobe Steel, Ltd. is a global manufacturer of iron and steel powders. Kobe Steel also produces high-alloy fine-steel powders for metal injection molding (MIM) and magnetic-material demand. In addition to steel powders, isostatic pressing machines are manufactured for both CIP and HIP. The production capacity for steel powder is 7,500 mt per month, and more than 2,000 mt per month of powder are shipped as premixed powder. Fukuda Metal Foil & Powder Co. Ltd. has been manufacturing various nonferrous powders for use in PM, plain bearings, etc., and has plants in Japan and China. Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. specializes in producing parts for the chemical, electronic, and automotive industries. The automotive parts business department produces resin-forming and powder metallurgy products. Hitachi Metals Ltd., Japan, has gained distinction for its high quality technology and outstanding development capabilities.
