Abstract
The reaction of [(C5Me5)RuCl2]m with halogen (Cl2, Br2, and I2) in dichloromethane gives trihalogenoruthenium(IV) complexes, [(C5Me5)RuX3]n (X = Cl, Br, and I), (2) in excellent yields. The RuIV complexes formulated as (C5Me5)RuX3(L) (3) are formed in the reaction of complex 2 with triphenylphosphine or carbon monoxide in dichloromethane, while treatment of complex 2 with triphenylphosphine or pyridine in ethanol exclusively affords RuIII complexes, (C5Me5)RuX2(L) (4).
