### Abstract

The 4sns s and4dnd rydbergserious ofcalciumarestudiedby a multichannel approach of the R-matrix method. It is shown that the energy levels of bound Rydberg series are obtained as the energies which satisfy the equation detaR, j- - SitXt\ = 0. Here Xt stands for the reciprocal of the logarithmic derivative of the Whittaker function which approximates the wavefunction of a Rydberg electron of the ith channel. The agreement of the calculated values with experiment is excellent for the 'S series but is somewhat poor for the 'D series.
