Abstract
A redescription of the intertidal aleocharine genus Brachypronomaea Sawada, 1956 from the Ryukyu Islands. Japan is presented with illustrations of its diagnostic features. Brachypronomaea is hypothesized to be a member of the tribe Myllaenini rather than the tribe Pronomaeini based on the small gland opening on the anterior margin of tergite VII; antero-lateral angles of mentum prolonged into spinose processes; galea without setae on the mesal edge; lacinia with a pair of curved setae near the base; and the ligula short and entire.
