Abstract

Noting the "value in self-presentation", we studied how products were positioned regarding their contents and values in self-presentation by taking notebook personal computers as example. Depth interviews regarding various products including note-book PC were conducted to extract their value in self-presentation, and the results were classified into seven items based on the analyses by "KJ Method" and MDA (minimum dimensional analysis). A questionnaire survey using these items was conducted on 117 subjects in respect of notebook PCs of nine major manufacturers in order to position the products from the viewpoint of self-presentation. Differences of vocabularies for evaluating and amount of knowledge about notebookPC result in a change of positioning of products. It was also found out that the product design was effective for emphasizing values in self-presentation.
