Abstract

In order to find calix[n]arenes which can interact with C60 in solution we have screened 28 different calix[n]arenes by spectroscopic methods. We eventually discovered such three calix[n]arenes (15 · Bu(t) · H, 26 · Bu(t) · Bu(t) · H · H, and 33 Bu(t) · H). They commonly possess a cone conformation and a benzene ring inclination suitable to C60 inclusion. We believe that this finding will open a door to new fullerene-calix[n]arene inclusion chemistry.
