Abstract
Crown-based organogelators 1 and 2 bearing long alkyl chains were synthesized. Their gelation abilities were drastically enhanced by addition of bypyridinium-based ion (32+), suggesting the bridging effect of the bipyridinium-based ion could be the primary driving force for the stabilization of organogel systems due to the intermolecular charge-transfer interaction with the 1:2 stoichiometry.
