Abstract

Recently, we have firstly reported a 7-motif peptide (Glu-Leu-Trp-Arg-Pro- Thr-Arg) that specifically binds to isotactic (it) poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Based on the obtained achievements, the peptide was used as template to prepare PMMA with high isotacticity through free radical polymerization at the presence of (i-PrOCOO)2, KPS-TEMED or BPO-DMA as initiator. The results of NMR measurements showed that the tacticity of obtained PMMA was almost same as that of conventional PMMA (mm:mr:rr = 3:33:64). It seemed that the concentration of peptide and the polymerization temperature did not have distinct effect on the tacticity of obtained PMMA and the solvent was a key factor to get PMMA with high isotacticity.
